Designers tools nowadays include both the traditional mediums of drawing and computer tools. There is growing interest in the study of design tools as emerging from practicing design researchers. Design tools should be seen as something more than just assistive devices, as they can become a crucial part of the creative design process.
My contribution to this topic addresses design tools as part of the designer’s personal theory-building and knowledge production. I have approached the topic through making design tool artifacts, which relate to a process of building a personal theory of space.
During 2006-2007, I have worked as a researcher in the project Studio’n’Site – Mixed reality tools for spatial design.
During 2008-2009, I have been working as a researcher in the Taik Future Home Institute.
During 2010, I worked full time on my doctoral research with a grant received from the Jenny and Antti Wihuri foundation.
Currently I am working on my manuscript.
From the photograph / painting series “Landscapes” in the exhibition Art from Research
” This series of images and paintings began from a belief that there is shared terrain in the making of art, design and research. They all involve the activity of becoming familiar with the object of the study and processing the resulting material afterwards. The results become a basis for a renewed search. Through these works I wanted to examine place as experienced, reproduced as seen, and as a set of measures.”
