Katja Soini graduated as an industrial designer from University of Art and Design Helsinki in 2003. Already during her MA studies she focused strongly on users and user experience. Since then, Soini has worked mainly as a researcher-designer and a lecturer. In several R&D projects to study and develop practices for work and living, Soini has built her work on intensive collaboration with users and stakeholders. Soini´s teaching has widened user-centred and co-design approaches for various design fields and also for other professionals. She has also promoted user experience e.g. as a TV-reporter. At the moment, Soini´s research interest lie in understanding how co-design approach may encourage societal development. Her doctoral thesis examines a feasibility study that defined the development needs for resident-oriented building renovation and modernisation.
