In previous years the literature task in UID has been an exam by the end of the module. This year we wanted to make it differently. Instead of being an annoyance at the end of the course, we wanted that the course literature supports the students in the UID process, in the application of the methods, in framing the overall topic etc. Also, we would like to support master students in learning how to write about their reflections in more academic manner. The template for writing is at UID 09 website. Learning diaries should also help you in this.
The literature task has several steps:
1) 4.11. Literature workshop: you have been given an article or a chapter to read and to present to others. The aim with this part is to help you to get familiar with different articles, many of them at once. From the presentations and brochure you can start finding the ones that you feel relevant for the topic you are interested in, for your article.
2) 6.11. Delivering abstracts: Try to think what you would like to write about: create a title and write few sentences of what you aim to write about. It can be about a specific issue you find interesting in relation to UID literature, or it could be about the user study, or piazza as a public home, or . I know this is early to know what is particularly interesting in your process, but giving an early dead line aims to help you to find relevant articles, and look at the process with a specific lens, research through design. You can write individually or in pairs.
3) 13.11. Tutoring abstracts: Giving feedback on your ideas.
4) 28.11. First paper drafts due: possibility to get feedback and guidance on the writing
5) 15.11. Final papers due.
If you are motivated and your findings seem potential, you could continue the paper and hopefully submit to a design conference such as
DIS2010 (Designing interactive systems) www.dis2010.org/
Dead line 15 February: Full paper and Workshop proposal submission deadline.
1 May: Short paper, Demonstration, Doctoral Consortium submission deadline.
