It is a single list listing all databases. Each database contains collections of ebooks, ejournals, etc. Searches for certain topics or titles have to be searched through each data base individually. Later there will be the renewed Nelli portal. It offers a single interface to search through a combined database of various. There's is no such thing as a single database that contains everything. But the Nelli interface helps on this.
Some examples of Databases:
EBSCO - A database e.g. academic search and business search
Wiley journal database - many different sciences
Ebrary - ebooks. Its collections may vary per university
IEEE - you can find lots of articles on ubiquitous computing
Every ebook service is different. There might be overlap in titles, but collections may differ. Ebooks can be bought on request e.g. MyiLibrary
Nelli interface contains two searches 1) Quick search and 2) meta search - searches through many databases at the same time.
To find your way through the databases you'd still need to know which category it belongs. Category is the point of entrance in to the databases.
Entrance by author is not possible. Think about what kind of journals he is publishing in. Then try to find the databases belonging to this category.
Don't use the dots on the letters if you're looking for non finnish sources.
Each category contains articles from different data bases.
Each database contains articles belonging to different categories.
Helsinki university Nelli is accessible from the premises, e.g. kampulu - nelliportaali.fi
Not all are full articles. In case you find a short reference you can go to LINDA - the union catalogue, which searches all universities of Finland combined.
Interlibrary loans
In case you need an article available in another university globally, you can request it for a fee. 8 euro for Finland; 20 euro for global
Collection databases and online public catalogues are e.g. Helcat teemu helmet. These services are free. Later there will be a delivery service that provides titles from these catalogues.
